Is there something in your life that you’d love to change but have resigned to the fact that it will never get better? A couple of years ago, I felt stuck and frustrated with my life. I was depressed, constantly worried about my son, irritated by other people and established in a career that didn’t fill me. My life seemed great from the outside, I had everything I wanted and needed. And that made me feel even worse because I felt guilty and ashamed for not feeling as good as I should. It wasn’t until I found the connection between my thoughts and feelings that my whole life changed. I learned that my problem was my own mind and that my thinking was creating all my suffering and keeping me stuck. I was repeating narratives that were not serving me and living a version of my life that wasn’t by my own conscious choosing. If you feel this way at all too, I want to share what I learned because I know it will help you. First of all, you will be relieved to know that your supposed to feel this way. The primitive part of your brain is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do. It creates a lot of fear and anxiety when things aren’t going the way it thinks they are supposed to. On top of that, the way women are socialized adds more constraints to the way we think and feel. We are taught to value ourselves based on how we look, what we achieve, what other people think of us and to think we are not good enough.

I thought if I wasn’t happy in my career of over 20 years and quit my job, I wouldn’t find anything that I was good at, would fill me and replace my income so I would end up homeless on the street and die. Totally normal. Our brains are designed to keep us alive. The good news is, you can retrain your brain to use the pre-frontal cortex, the more evolved part of your brain to redirect your thoughts and let the primitive part of your brain know that its thoughts are not true. This is how we stop living on default at the effect of our habitual thoughts and deliberately choose different ones so we can feel better and create different outcomes in our life. But our thoughts happen so quickly and automatically that we don’t even notice them and realize why we feel stressed or anxious. So, we need to learn to slow them down and develop awareness. Awareness of how you’re interpreting your life, yourself, others and the world versus the facts and reality.

It’s from this place that we can expand. We can experience so much less mental and emotional drama with ourselves and others and so much more peace.

Most people live their lives thinking and feeling on default. Evolving consciously as a human and taking responsibility for our lives isn’t easy, it’s work. But the freedom and abundance experienced from doing this transformational work is so worth it. You can rise above the narratives that keep you stuck to change the way you see yourself, the way you see others and experience your life any way you want to. If you’d like to learn how to become more aware of the thoughts that are holding you back in life so that you can feel better more often and create exactly what you want in life, let's chat.
