Self-care means different things to everyone.


A bubble bath, exercising, taking a break from your phone, avoiding “toxic” people, getting extra sleep.


Most people practice self-care to take care of their mental and emotional health.


But if you want to take care of your mental and emotional health, you have to start with your mind.


Because your thoughts cause your feelings.


And your feelings drive your actions.


So, you can’t act your way into feeling better for good.


Have you ever noticed that when you do, the relief you feel from these activities is only temporary?


That’s because you haven’t dealt with the thoughts that are causing you to feel stressed or anxious in the first place.


Those thoughts are still there, whether you’re aware of them or not, affecting the way you feel and show up in your life.


Here’s the thing, if you’re not processing your thoughts and feelings, all of your self-care rituals are essentially just ways of distracting and numbing out your negative emotions.


Paying attention to how you’re thinking and feeling daily and then choosing on purpose is true self-care and the only way to create lasting relief.


It’s from this place that you can truly be present and experience the pleasure of time to yourself, moving your body, resting or whatever you enjoy.


Knowing how to manage your thoughts and feelings and create any emotion you want to feel is truly the secret to life.
